I know, i know! It’s been a long time i didn’t write anything on this substack. There are several reasons.
First of all, i am not a top player so i really don’t care talking about cards, theory craft, meta teams,… So when Origin was launched, the netflix serie “Axieleaks with Shade” came to an end.
Then we had the big Ronin bridge hack. As a really active Channel Mod since August 2021, i have to say that it was really hard to see this news. And of course, all social medias and especially Discord were on fire. We spent hours and hours to answer all questions and it was the most tiring moment. It’s hard to keep a healthy mind when a big part of the community loses smile and motivation.
But we are not here for that today!
I wanted to write this article after i saw the Season 21 rewards. I don’t think it’s a bad one, but when i saw it, my 10 years experience in the poker industry came back in my mind.
To make it quick, for 10 years, i was a poker player and was manager for the biggest poker room in Paris called Cercle Cadet, maybe you played in this poker room. One of my main job was to take care of poker tournament registration, money and payout.
When you pay money to play a tournament, you expect to be ITM (In The Money). For me, an Axie Season is like a poker tournament. You don’t pay any money to play Axie Season, but you play against other players to be at the top.
Here, i won’t talk about the number of AXS distributed but i will give my opinion on how it should be distributed.
In any competition, the most important thing is to look at the number of players who will compete. A competition with 1000 players or 1 million players won’t have the same reward system.
If i continue the comparaison with a poker tournament, we usually think that 15% of players should be ITM (In the money). So if you have 1 million players playing the tournament, only 150.000 players will finish the competition with money. Some tournaments take 10% ITM, some 20%.
So what can we do with Axie?
If we remember Season 20, we had 300.000 players who finished with AXS. It’s a lot of players but we had 2 millions Daily Active Users at the start of the season. So finally, we gave AXS to 15% of total players.
But when i see Season 21 rewards, we see that we change this pourcentage. Right now, we have around 1.2 million Daily Active Users. With 300.000 players getting AXS, it’s 25%. I don’t say it’s bad, but for a competitive spirit, i think the best is to always keep the same ITM % for each season. We won’t give AXS to 300.000 players if we only have 300.000 Daily Active Users.
If we have 1.2 million Daily Active Users at the start of Season 21, we should get 180.000 players getting AXS at the end of the season.
I took this base to rebuild a new payout with my old poker files. Also, for competition spirit, it’s important to get lot of different levels in the payout. If the gap between 2 prizes is too big, players lose motivation.
So with all those information, here is the Season 21 reward proposition i built and think could be the best for the community! And again, i keep the same amount AXS distributed.
What do you think about it?
I will talk about it a lot on twitter, with new numbers. So follow my twitter https://twitter.com/GuillotineNFT !
The Guillotine…
I think this is a very good suggestion!
Does the length of time the tournament goes on for matter? Could be wrong, but is this season longer than other seasons? That being said, I think the competitive players don't play the whole season as they can climb pretty quickly.
